THE MEASURE-TWICE MOMENT

Get the size just right.

A 5 mm grid should print as a 5 mm grid. This little check helps you see whether your printer agrees.

1. Print the test sheet.

Download the test sheet for your paper. Select the same paper size in the print dialog and choose Actual Size / 100%. Keep “Fit,” “Shrink,” and borderless expansion off.

2. Measure the printed square.

The test square is 50 × 50 mm. Measure the horizontal and vertical sides with a ruler, from the center of one printed line to the center of the other. Measuring both directions can reveal uneven scaling.

3. Check the settings before compensating.

A short side usually means the printer has shrunk the page to fit its printable area. Check the paper size, scaling option, and any printer-driver enlargement setting first. A different PDF viewer can also help.

If both directions are consistently off by the same amount after those checks, the tool shows a trial custom scaling percentage. Print the test again and verify it before using a cutting template. One scaling percentage cannot correct two different horizontal and vertical errors.

This check reports the lengths you enter. Ruler precision, paper movement, and printer tolerances still affect your result.
