The selected x-height is the baseline-to-waistline distance. Ascender and descender spaces are each the same height; dashed slant guides support a consistent 55° direction.
The measurement to know: lowercase x-height. This layout is a practice aid for a 1:1:1 height ratio. If your script calls for a different proportion, choose a different guide rather than treating it as universal.
On this sheet: practice bands: 14; slant: 55°; height ratio: 1:1:1. The drawing area is 156 × 230 mm.

ISO B5 is 176 × 250 mm. This differs from Japanese JIS B5 (182 × 257 mm). Changing the paper size adjusts the available area; the selected pattern measurement stays the same.
